I am a celiac as well. I have found that it isn’t worth the head ache of trying to figure out if something is gluten free. I always order a salad with olive and vinegar.then rice(plain) or potato plain(fries) then a simple meat, Broiled fish steak, Burger no bun. and just make it imperative to the waitress that no bread or milk product touch it at all!
I am sorry to hear about your diet, because that is a very hard diet to stick to!
Here are a few websites that might help.
Good luck!

I have had celiac disease for two years, and i recently found out that I suffer from a dairy allergy. And just like you, I travel alot, often out of the country. You can buy food at celiac.com, also most organic stores contain a lot of gluten free/ lactose/casein free prodducts. Amy’s is a good frozen food company because it says right on the package if it’s gluten free or dairy free or both. They make a delicious spinach pizza that’s gluten/dairy free. You can buy their foods at amys.com. Although it doesn’t have all their foods, but it does have store locators so you can find a store near you that sells them. Eating out is extremely difficult, so for specific resturaunts i would just ask around. Also P.F. Changs (i’m not sure if they have them in NY) has a GF menu. Alot of it’s just hunting for the right places. The easy way at any resturaunt is just to get some sort of grilled meat, a salad(ask for no cheese/crutons and always ask about the dressing), steamed vegetables, some sort of fruit dish, rice, or potatoes. If you are going to a classier resturaunt, you can often call ahead and the chef will most likely buy some GF ingredients and make something special. Soups should be avoided if possible because many have noodles obviously, barley, or they sometimes have wheat as a thickener. If you do travel out of the country is where it gets hard. If you go to some oriental place you can pick up tamari sauce at the store(like soy sauce but w/out the wheat). Many Euroopean countries are more aware of celiacs so they understand what you’re talking about and have many options for you. Now mexican foods are good if you’re gluten intolerant BUT get harder if you have a dairy allergy(etc.) Although most fajitas are safe and so are tostadas(just say no cheese, sour cream), burriots(as long as you once again say no cheese, no sour cream). Enchiladas arent as safe because the cheese is mixed in w/ the sauce and harder to be left out. Well I hope this helps. If you have anymore questions feel free to email me!
